BIOGRAPHY
Svetlana Dimitrova Atanasova was born in Smolyan, Bulgaria but now lives and works in the capital – Sofia, Bulgaria.
She graduated in 1985 from the “Professional High High School of Applied Arts” with a degree in textiles.
Attracted by the design of women’s and children’s clothing she began studying with the Mongolian textile teacher Ganhand Lham Suren and later graduated from the College of Fashion and Design “St. Ariadne”.
Despite her interest in fashion she is also working on improving her skills in painting with oil and acrylic paints.
Over time and in the search for new techniques and shapes on her canvases, she began embedding figural elements. Inspired by nature (the energy in the air, earth and water) those elements translated into ethereal drawings of female figures, animals and kingdom plantae. A flow of internal light and a feeling of harmony and love.
“There is so much beauty everywhere. I try to capture it in order to create my work which will engage the viewer’s imagination and lift his spirits.”
Svetlana Atanasova likes to explore and try new things. Along the way of her development and creativity she started engaging with the technique of painting on silk thus transferring her painting skills onto natural silk scarves.
